Morrisville men post come-from-behind league win over Penn

Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team battled back from a 12-point halftime deficit Saturday afternoon to claim a thrilling 79-78 United East win over host Penn College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, for their third straight league victory.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host Penn College held a 12-point lead at the half, but couldn't hold on as the SUNY Morrisville men's basketball squad rallied for a second half comeback to claim a thrilling 79-78 victory over the Wildcats Saturday afternoon in Williamsport.
  • Penn led by as many as 10 just over seven minutes into the second half before the Mustangs put together a 10-0 run to tie the contest at 51 with just under nine minutes to go.
  • Both teams battled back and forth keeping within striking distance of one another, but it was a layup from Jordan Coard (Jamaica, N.Y.) with 2:22 to go that sparked a 6-0 mini run for the Mustangs, giving them the edge that maintained the multi-possession distance from Penn.
  • Brandon Kulakowski (Brewerton, N.Y.) hit two free throws to put the Mustangs out in front by six with 36 ticks remaining, and following a three-pointer by the Wildcats, Charles Brown (Harlem, N.Y.) added two of his own for the five point advantage.
  • Penn nailed another to make it a two-point ball game with 19 remaining on the clock, but Shykell Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) added the front end of two from the charity stripe for the three-point lead.
  • Morrisville was sent back to the line after a missed long ball by Penn, where Kulakowski hit the back end of two for the four point lead.
  • One final heave for the Wildcats saw the ball sail through the net from downtown, but time expired and Morrisville earned the 79-78 league win, completing the comeback with a 53-point second half.
  • Charles Brown led the Mustangs with 20 off the bench, hitting 6-for-8 from the floor, while adding a 7-for-10 performance from the line.
  • Thirteen of his game total 20 came in the second half of action.
  • Coard added 18, 14 that came in the second half, while posting five boards.
  • Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Mike Green (Bronx, N.Y.) each posted 10, combining for seven rebounds and eight assists, while picking off four.
  • All 10 of Smith's points came in the second half for the Mustangs.
  • Kulakowski finished with nine points, snagging a team high 12 boards, including three that came on the offensive glass.
