General Compliance Information

At SUNY Morrisville, the compliance office's responsibility is to oversee student-athletes and department staff members, faculty and staff, along with friends of the program, to ensure that the athletic department and its student-athletes are compliant with all institution, Conference Office, and NCAA Division III rules and regulations.

NCAA Principles of Rules Compliance

Per the NCAA Constitution, a member institution will comply with all applicable NCAA rules and regulations. An institution is also responsible for monitoring its athletics program to assure compliance for identifying and reporting all instances in which compliance has not been achieved.

2024-25 Summary of NCAA Regulations

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for practice and/or competition, student-athletes must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours during any semester. If a student drops below 12 credits, he/she immediately becomes ineligible for practice and/or competition.

All student-athletes must have a current physical on file with the Student Health Center prior to practicing, within 6 months of their initial participation in athletics.

Students must be cleared through the compliance office prior to practicing and/or competing, and are also required to meet NCAA and institutional continuing eligibility standards.

All student-athletes wishing to participate in athletics during the academic year must attend a mandatory NCAA Compliance meeting conducted by the athletic department's compliance director. Pertinent NCAA bylaws, campus academic standards for eligibility, drug testing, and other compliance issues will be addressed during this meeting. Student-athletes will also have the opportunity to ask questions and receive clarification about NCAA bylaws and other issues regarding eligibility.

General Transfer Information

An athletics staff member or other representatives of the institution’s athletics interests shall not make any contact in any manner with the student-athlete of another NCAA or NAIA four-year collegiate institution, directly or indirectly, without first obtaining written permission to do so, regardless of who makes the initial contact.

If a current student-athlete attends another Division III institution, he/she may issue on their own behalf, permission for another Division III institution to contact them about a potential transfer. The self-release will need to be forwarded to the director of athletics and compliance officer at the institution of interest. Contact may occur during the 30-day period beginning with the date the permission to contact form was signed by the student-athlete.

For additional transfer information, refer to the below NCAA Transfer Guide and contact the head coach, compliance officer or director of athletics at your institution for any further questions you may have.
