Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's basketball team posted their second win of the season over SUNY Cobleskill in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action Wednesday night, holding on for the 64-54 victory on the road in Cobleskill.
The win boosts the Mustangs record to 15-7 overall, 11-3 in North Division action within the NEAC. Cobleskill drops to 3-18 on the season, 3-10 in conference play.
Ibrahima Toure (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Morrisville State with 14 points, just missing the double-double with nine rebounds, while adding three assists and four steals to the win. Teammate Qwuhail Barlow (Cortland, N.Y.) posted 12 points along with teammate Trent Ward (Auburn, N.Y.) to round out the Mustangs scoring leaders.
Jordan Hoose (Hudson, N.Y.) snared a team best 12 rebounds as Morrisville State controlled the boards, outrebounding Cobleskill 44-35, including the narrow 12-11 edge on the offensive glass.
Cobleskill had two tally 16 points each, including Malik Chambers and Quincey Miller. Derrick Quarles led the Fighting Tigers on the boards, grabbing seven.
Morrisville State led by four midway through the opening period, before going on a 14-2 run over a three minute span to claim a double digit lead over the hosts with just over four minutes showing on the clock in the first.
The Mustangs maintained a 10 point lead heading into the half, as they held the 34-24 advantage over the Fighting Tigers at the break.
Cobleskill was able to pull within five early on in the second half, but an 8-2 spurt regained the 11 point lead with 13:41 to go in regulation.
A 13-4 run by the hosts cut the deficit to four with 4:35 remaining, but the Mustangs quickly regained momentum as Joe Hulbert (Duanesburg, N.Y.) nailed a shot from the outside.
Morrisville State's defensive game resulted in two straight Cobleskill miscues which the Mustangs capitalized on for four straight points, regaining an 11 point lead with 1:30 left.
Barlow sealed the win with 30 seconds remaining in regulation for Morrisville State, hitting both free throws for a 12 point advantage.
Morrisville State dominated the second half, outscoring Cobleskill 20-6 in the paint, while forcing 10 host turnovers.
The Mustangs finished the contest shooting 42.4% from the floor, while converting 10-of-12 chances from the free throw line. Cobleskill went 20-for-60 from the floor on the night (33%), and hit just 7-of-12 from the free throw line.
Morrisville State returns to the court Saturday, traveling to Bryn Athyn for a 1 p.m. tip.
