SUNY Poly tops Morrisville State 71-61 in NEAC action

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's basketball team made a late comeback attempt but fell short as SUNY Polytechnic collected the 71-61 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Wednesday night in Morrisville.

The loss drops Morrisville State to 9-6 overall, 5-2 in NEAC action. SUNY Poly improves to 6-8, 5-1 in conference play.

Quayshaun Mitchell led all scorers with 23 for the Wildcats, hitting 7-of-11 from long range, while adding three steals and five rebounds to his tallies on the night. Peyton Griffiths contributed 14 points in the win for Poly, while teammate Joseph Ojo rounded out the visitor leaderboard with 13 points, hitting 11-of-12 free throws.

Ibrahima Toure (Brooklyn, N.Y.) netted 14 and grabbed seven rebounds in the Mustangs efforts on the night, while teammate Trent Ward (Auburn, N.Y.) added 11 points in three from beyond the arc.

Qwuhail Barlow (Cortland, N.Y.) contributed 10 in the loss for Morrisville State.

SUNY Poly made a 10-0 run over the final 3:21 of the opening half to claim the 41-33 halftime lead and didn't look back as they continued the momentum throughout the second half. Mitchell was 6-for-7 in the first half in three's for the Wildcats, and Poly capitalized on eight Mustang turnovers leading to 10 visitor points.

Morrisville State finished shooting 45.7% from the floor on the night.

The Mustangs return to the floor Saturday, traveling to Wilson College.
