Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's basketball team posted their second straight win of the week Saturday afternoon, topping host Penn College of Technology 74-58 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action in Pennsylvania.
The win lifts Morrisville State to 7-12 overall, 4-8 in conference play.
A trio of Mustangs proved too much for the Wildcats in the contest, as they combined for 54 of the total 74 points scored on the day, while shooting 57.5% from the floor.
Junior guard Joe Hulbert (Duanesburg, N.Y.) led the way with a season high 20 points, draining four from behind the arc, while teammate Ibrahima Toure (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 19 points in the inside game, adding seven rebounds to his tallies on the day.
Trent Ward (Auburn, N.Y.) rounded out the Mustang leaderboard with a 15 point scoring effort, adding three assists and two steals in the win.
Kevin Laurence and Thomas Ross each scored 12 to lead the Wildcats, Ross adding eight rebounds, while James Boylan contributed 11 in the loss.
Both teams played to a back-and-forth contest until seven minutes in when Morrisville State used a 10-2 run over the next six minutes to break the game open to an eight point visitor lead.
Following a basket by Laurence, Morrisville State responded with eight straight points for a 14 point advantage that carried over to the halftime break.
Penn College was able to cut the deficit to seven with 12:05 to go, but the Mustangs offense ignited and went on a 16-2 run over the ensuing five minutes of the contest to increase their lead to 21, a hole that was too big for the hosts to overcome.
Morrisville State converted 31-of-60 shots from the floor on the afternoon (51.7%), while holding Penn College to just a 37.1% effort in the contest.
The Mustangs return to the court Wednesday, hosting SUNY Cobleskill in a 7 p.m. tip-off in Morrisville.
