MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustang Men's Ice Hockey dropped the first game of their SUNYAC series to Fredonia, 6-3 on Friday night.

Fredonia struck first in the conference matchup as Hunter Long notched his first goal of the year from the top of the crease, five minutes into play.  Bobby Polachek and Ryan Wilkinson picked up assists.  Four minutes later, the Blue Devils went up 2-0 when Luke Rivera found the back of the net.

The Mustangs cut the lead in half just over halfway through the first period.  Brett Johnson (Bronxville, N.Y.) picked up the goal, while Layne Martin (Findlay, Ohio) and David Landau (Newtown, Conn.) picked up the assists.  Five minutes later, the Mustangs took advantage of a Blue Devil high sticking penalty to bang home a crucial power play goal.  Excellent passing by Jordan Carvalho (Brampton, Ontario) and MJ Maerkl (Binghamton, N.Y.) led to a Joseph Santino (Woodbridge, Ontario) goal, and a 2-2 tie.

Unfortunately, the lead would not hold as Fredonia's Taylor Bourne put the Blue Devils up 3-2 with just over a minute remaining in the first period.

Fredonia extended their lead to 4-2, just seconds into the second period when Marcus Ortiz would score is first of two goals on the night.

Morrisville seemed to make a push at the end of the second period when Landau found the back of the net for the Mustangs with seven seconds left. In the end, it would be too little too late as Fredonia scored two more times in the third period to put the game out of reach.
