Morrisville men settle for draw in North Country bout with Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's hockey settled for a three-goal draw with host Potsdam State Friday night in SUNYAC action through extra time, scoring twice on the power play against the Bears.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's hockey settled for a three-goal draw through extra time Friday night on the road in Potsdam, with two power play scores coming in the second period of the SUNYAC bout.
  • Morrisville put their first of the night on the board just 3:25 in with Zach Nicholls (Chestermere, Alta.) netting the shorthanded tally off the pass from Tanner Dietz (Mitchell, Ont.).
  • The Mustangs extended the lead to two nearly a period later as Will Jones (Corbeil, Ont.) buried the power play score off the assists from Connor Carlile (Southlake, Texas) and Connor Santay (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) at the 2:04 mark of the second frame.
  • Potsdam posted back-to-back tallies to tie the game at two, but it was a second power play strike of the period that put the Mustangs back in front.
  • Dietz collected the power play score at 14:08 as the defensive duo of Santay and Carlile picked up their second assists of the night.
  • Morrisville maintained the one-goal lead until the 18:35 mark of the third when the hosts pulled netminder Luciano Chinappi for the extra skater and capitalized, pulling the contest even at three and forcing the overtime frame.
  • Potsdam pressured the Mustang net but were unable to put the winner past Morrisville netminder Chad Lowe (Auburn, N.Y.) who registered four saves in the extra time for the draw.
  • Lowe finished with 37 stops on the night.
  • Potsdam's Chinappi had 32 saves.

  • Morrisville will battle SUNY Canton tomorrow afternoon, hitting the ice at 4 p.m. in Canton for their second SUNYAC meeting with the Roos of the season.
