MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team will get the season underway on Monday, taking the fields for the first time at THE Spring Games in Clermont, Florida during spring break.
 
The Mustangs, who put together a 9-19-1 overall record a year ago will enter their second season within the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) ready to compete for a post-season slot.
 
Morrisville added nine new faces in the off-season, and returns seven the lineup from a year ago, including four that posted a .300 or above batting average from last season's slate. Hannah Brennan (Trumansburg, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 83 at bats, collecting 28 hits for a .337 batting average. Kaylie Kendrick (Johnson City, N.Y.) posted 22 hits in 67 appearances, a .328 batting average, while Lindsey Fish (Freeville, N.Y.) and Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) combined for 53 hits while batting .325 and .305, respectively.
 
The Mustangs will see veterans Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) and Kendall Darling (Lacona, N.Y.) return to the mound, but not without competition from incoming talent Gracie Battles (Fulton, N.Y.) and Hannah Decker (Kirkville, N.Y.) who will be making their collegiate debuts this spring.
 
Kaylor threw 105 innings a year ago, registering a 4.87 ERA, while Darling was on the mound for 60 innings, registering a 6.50 ERA across the season.
 
"We're excited about the group we have returning and the competitiveness they've shown since the fall," said head coach Samantha Guillaume, who enters her second season at the helm of the program.
 
"Our non-conference schedule will challenge us early and help prepare us for the grind of conference play. Our goal is to keep improving every week and put ourselves in a position to be playing our best softball throughout conference play."
 
Morrisville will get their first taste of the season competition on Monday in Clermont, Florida as they take the field against The College of Wooster, kicking off an eight-game series during Spring Break in the sunshine state.
 
The Mustangs will then see former conference opponent Maine-Farmington that afternoon, before taking on Augsburg University and the University of Wisconsin-Stout the following day.
 
Thursday's action will see Morrisville take the field against Keen State and the University of New England, before wrapping up spring training with a double against Ripon College and Westminster (MO).
 
Returning to New York, the Mustangs will have three-straight double headers on the road, the first stop at Cobleskill on March 27, followed by a second at Elmira on the 29^th. A double with nearby SUNY Poly will lead Morrisville into their first league matchup of the season, a road game on April 3 at Plattsburgh, followed by a double-header at Potsdam on the fourth.
 
They take the field for the first time against non-conference opponent Skidmore on April 6, kicking off a five-game home skid that sees New Paltz and Oneonta come to town on the 10^th and 11^th, respectively.
 
Delhi will roll into town on the 14^th, followed by Cortland on the 17^th, leading Morrisville into a road battle at Clarkson on the 22^nd.
 
Morrisville will host Fredonia on the 24^th, followed by Buffalo State on the 25^th for the final home weekend finale. Morrisville will wrap up their regular season schedule with road battles at Union on the 26^th, followed by their final weekend of SUNYAC regular season action at Oswego on May 1^st and Canton on the 2^nd.
