Morrisville softball closes out 2025 season with tie

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team closed out the 2025 season Saturday afternoon, in rainy conditions, as they played to a five-inning draw with visiting SUNY Potsdam in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville softball closed out the 2025 season Saturday afternoon with a five-inning battle with visiting SUNY Potsdam, playing to a six run draw on senior day for the Mustangs.
  • Potsdam took an early 4-0 lead after the opening inning, before opening a 5-0 gap in the second.
  • Morrisville put one on the board in the bottom of the second before exploding the bats in the bottom of the third to pull within one of the Bears.
  • The hosts added the tying score in the bottom of the fourth, pulling it even at six, before both teams walked off the diamond for the final time in the season after the fifth.
  • Morrisville's first run came in the bottom of the second, as senior Cassidy Phillips (Albany, N.Y.) poked a single to center field to score Lindsey Fish (Freeville, N.Y.) who reached after beating the throw on her hit to short.
  • After Potsdam regained the five run lead, Morrisville rallied in the bottom of the third to load the bases with their first three at bats of the inning, before senior Emery Sawitzki (Amsterdam, N.Y.) reached on an error by the Potsdam pitcher, scoring three off consecutive errors to make it a 6-4 ball game.
  • On the ensuing at bat, Sawitzki reached home following a Mustang ground out, cutting the deficit to one run heading into the fourth.
  • Morrisville carried momentum into the top of the fourth, turning a double play before halting the Bears at third on a ground out play.
  • Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) led off with a double shot to deep center field, before advancing into scoring position on a wild pitch.
  • Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) sent a sacrifice fly to left field to score Kaylor, tying the contest at six.
  • Potsdam threatened to score in the top of the fifth, moving a runner into scoring position, but the Mustangs defense once again kept the Bears from reaching home, as they left one on base.
  • Morrisville attempted to break the tie in the bottom of the inning, but the Bears defense made three straight plays to end the contest with the draw.
  • With continuous rainy conditions, the game was played to just five innings, with the second of the double-header canceled.
  • Morrisville registered five hits on the day, including a 2-for-2 outing by Fish at the plate.
  • Phillips and Lafontaine each went 1-for-2 with an RBI apiece, while Kaylor was 1-for-1 with a run scored.
  • Kendall Darling (Lacona, N.Y.) tossed two innings for Morrisville, posting two strikeouts in 13 batters faced, before Kaylor threw the final three, allowing one earned run in 14 batters faced.
