MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The United East conference office has announced its Senior Scholar-Athlete Award winners for the spring 2023 season, recognizing a senior who truly represents the student-athlete model by performing in competition, in the classroom and surrounding community.

Senior defenseman, Kyle Farrell (Holtsville, N.Y.) was named the men's lacrosse honoree, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.

Farrell embodies the Division III student-athlete model, excelling in two sports for the Mustangs, while performing with academic prowess in the classroom.

"Kyle's ability to balance being a two-sport student-athlete and honor student while rarely sacrificing one for the other, is what Division III athletics is all about," said head men's lacrosse coach Chris Cooper.

"We are excited for him to receive the distinction of being a Senior Scholar Athlete Award winner, and are grateful for the example he left with our program."

A consistent starter for the defensive unit for men's lacrosse, Farrell compiled 133 ground balls across his career, adding 80 caused turnovers, while earning All-Conference accolades three times as a nod as a first team selection.

Farrell accumulated a 3.56 grade point average across his academic career at Morrisville, representing the Mustangs on the Empire 8 Presidents' List for football and earning conference Scholar-Athlete honors three times. A year ago, he earned the invitation to induction into Chi Alpha Sigma, Alpha Lambda Chapter of the National Collegiate Honor Society.

Earning his degree in criminal justice and pursuing a second in business administration, Farrell also assisted in service endeavors as both a football and men's lacrosse student-athlete, helping to organize benefit drives for not-for-profits, assisting with the "Be A Match" bone marrow program, mental health awareness 5K and community cleanup projects, food drives and programs with local youth. Farrell was also an active member with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), serving as a voice for fellow student-athletes with activities and programming across athletics.

SUNY Morrisville's curricula are enriched with applied learning and pave the way for opportunity at the Morrisville and Norwich campuses. An action-oriented, interactive learning lab, the college is a national leader in technology and has been lauded for its exemplary, innovative and effective community service programs.
