Squires nets two in loss at Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Sophomore Daniel Squires (Aquebogue, N.Y.) scored twice to lead visiting SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse on the road at Oneonta, but the Mustangs dropped the 19-5 decision to the Dragons in SUNYAC play.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Oneonta scored seven times in the opening quarter of Saturday's SUNYAC outing against visiting SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse, posting the 19-5 league win over the Mustangs in Oneonta.
  • Sophomore Daniel Squires (Aquebogie, N.Y.) led the Mustang efforts with two scores, one coming in the second quarter of action to break up the Red Dragons scoring and put Morrisville on the board.
  • Nicholas DeNicola (Southold, N.Y.) added a second Morrisville tally, minutes after Squires, notching the second unassisted score of the quarter.
  • Squires collected his second with 3:23 to go in the third, before Morrisville posted back-to-back tallies to open the fourth, one off the stick of Jason Tedeschi (Manlius, N.Y.) who buried the shot off the assist from Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.).
  • Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) posted the final Morrisville tally at the 11:30 mark of the fourth, as DeNicola picked up the assist.
  • Oneonta went on to add the final five scores of the contest, collecting the win.
  • Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) registered four saves in the first half of play, before Nathan Weise (Rochester, N.Y.) made an appearance in the second half, turning aside 11.
  • Andew Idzik (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) posted a team high eight ground balls, while causing one turnover in the defensive efforts, with another three ground ball pickups coming from Ben Cooter (Chittenango, N.Y.) who won three face-offs.

  • Morrisville will host SUNY Canton on Wednesday at 4 p.m. on Drake Field, their "Wear Orange Game" to support Every Child Matters and The Orange Shirt Society that raises awareness about the legacy of Indian Reservation Schools and their continuing impacts on individuals, families and communities.
