Morrisville men falter in overtime to Delhi

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team tied the contest with 7.0 seconds remaining in regulation to force the extra time period, but visiting SUNY Delhi notched the game winner halfway through the overtime frame to post the 13-12 win on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Junior Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) notched an unassisted goal with 7.0 seconds remaining in regulation, tying the contest at 12, but visiting SUNY Delhi posted the game winner midway through the overtime period to post the 13-12 win over the Mustangs on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Leading by four with under two minutes remaining in the third, Delhi rallied for five straight scores that carried over into the fourth quarter, including the go ahead tally with 1:07 showing on the clock.
  • After collecting the ball knocked loose by a Delhi defenseman, Mohammed beat the Bronco goalkeeper for the tying score with seven seconds remaining in regulation.
  • Delhi won the ensuing face-off, but the Mustangs defense knocked down the pass to force the extra time.
  • Morrisville had the look at net on their first possession in the overtime period, but the shot was blocked and a second attempt sailed wide of the net.
  • Delhi gained possession and with two minutes remaining found a hole in the Morrisville defense, posting the game winner off the stick of Jagger Beachak, his third tally to complete the hat trick performance.
  • Beachak added four assists to his totals to lead the Broncos with seven points, while teammate Joseph Lazazzaro notched six scores.
  • Daniel Squires (Aquebogue, N.Y.) posted a high four goals and two assists to lead the Morrisville efforts, with another three tallies coming from Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.).
  • Mohammed collected three goals and added an assist, while Jason Tedeschi (Manlius, N.Y.) had a three-point outing with his one goal and two assists.
  • Andrew Idzik (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) led the defensive efforts with five caused turnovers, collecting 13 ground balls and adding 10 face-off wins.
  • Griffin English (Big Flats, N.Y.) added three pickups to go along with one caused turnover.
  • Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) recorded the loss in net, posting 15 total saves.
