MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Conference office announced its 2023 All-Conference Team selections for football, naming 10 from SUNY Morrisville to its first, second and third teams.
Defensive back
Omar Jarvis (Rochester, N.Y.) got a nod on the first team for defense, and is joined by teammates
Justin Anderson (Jamaica, N.Y.) and
Evan Salvaggio (Geneseo, N.Y.) as second team honorees, along with
David Kelley (Macedon, N.Y.) and
Anai Brake (Carteret, N.J.) who received third team accolades.
Offensively,
Quamel Jarvis (Rochester, N.Y.) and
Jarrell Chaney (Albany, N.Y.) received second team nods, while Steve Frerichs (Wilson, N.Y.),
Darrin Sloan (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and
Cole Williams (Barton, N.Y.) each received third team recognition.
"We are really proud of all the guys that made All-Empire 8 this year," head coach
Ed Raby, Jr. said.
"All of these guys did a tremendous job for us, and helped our team grow as the year moved on. A lot of our strong finish was due to the play of these guys.
"The future is also bright, because ultimately eight of these guys can come back to play next year.
"Congrats to all these guys for the effort and performance they displayed this year."
Jarvis led the secondary that ranked third in the Empire 8 in interceptions and fourth in passing defense. Across 10 games on the season, the junior collected 60 total stops, forced a fumble and led the team with four interceptions, returning the ball 50 yards. In addition, Jarvis added two pass breakups and a blocked kick to his totals.
Ranking first in the league in interceptions, Jarvis posted a single game best 13 tackles against Brockport.
Anderson started all 10 games on the defensive line for the Mustangs, collecting a total 31 tackles, including 13 solo stops. Across the season the junior registered 4.5 tackles for a loss of 14 yards, including 2.5 sacks for a loss of 12 yards. Additionally, he forced a fumble and had six quarterback hurries, four alone in the outing against Utica.
Salvaggio earned All-Conference honors for a second time in his career, having been named to the third team a year ago.
Across the season the junior collected a team high 114 stops, 59 solo tackles, registered 2.5 tackles for a loss of eight yards, forced a fumble, had three pass breakups and recorded an interception for 62 returned yards.
He had a single game high 15 tackles against Utica. Come season end Salvaggio ranked second overall in the league in tackles, first in solo stops, while ranking 15
th in the NCAA in solo and 10
th in total tackles.
Kelley also earns All-Conference honors for a second time as a member of the defensive line, starting in all 10 games. Across the year he collected 30 total tackles, 11 solo, while registering 2.5 tackles for a loss of six yards and a half sack for a loss of two.
In addition, Kelley forced two quarterback hurries, had a pass breakup and recorded a single game high seven tackles twice on the year, including against Hobart.
Brake started all 10 games for the Mustangs at defensive back and across the year recorded 47 total tackles, while intercepting two, knocking down four and blocking a kick.
The junior had a single game high nine tackles against Moravian and Catholic Universities. Come season end he ranked 14
th overall in the Empire 8 in interceptions.

On the offensive side of the ball,
Quamel Jarvis earned All-Conference honors for a second time in his career at tight end, after collecting 373 yards on 27 receptions across 10 games started.
The junior registered four touchdowns, while adding another 33 yards on the ground in the running game. Posting a single game high 101 yards at Alfred, Jarvis ranked ninth in the Empire 8 in receiving yards at the conclusion of the regular season.
Chaney gets the nod for the first time in his career, wrapping up his senior season with a team best 576 yards receiving on 35 catches for four touchdowns. He added another 99 yards on the ground on 21 attempts across 10 games played, while recording a single game best 100 yards receiving at Moravian.
In that same contest, Chaney set the new single game mark for longest reception, a 99-yard scoring pay. He wrapped up his career ranked fourth in the Empire 8 in receiving, while ranking fourth in average yards per catch at 16.5.
Frerichs is a repeat selection to the third team at quarterback, earning the accolade a year ago for the first time. Across the year he started all 10 games as the signal caller, competing 133-of-233 passes for 13 touchdowns and 1,633 yards.
Alongside his strikes through the air, Frerichs added another 318 yards in the running game on 147 attempts, scoring seven times, with a single game high 119 coming on the ground against Moravian.
He had a single game high 259-yards passing at Alfred.
Frerichs ranked fourth overall in the Empire 8 in passing, was third in passing touchdowns recorded, 14
th in rushing yards and sixth in rushing touchdowns scored.
Williams and Sloan earn All-Conference recognition for their prowess on the offensive line. The two led the front in all 10 games for the Mustangs, leading to the offensive unit ranking fifth in the league in total offensive yards and fourth in offensive efficiency.
