MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville football head coach, Ed Raby, has announced four Mustangs who will serve as team captains for the 2022 season, as voted on by members of the Mustang squad, representing the offense and defense.
Senior linebackers
Ernesto Mitchell (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) and Philemon Benjamin (Queens, N.Y.) were voted as captains on the defensive side of the ball, while junior quarterback
Steven Frerichs (Wilson, N.Y.) and senior lineman
Brian Mapp (Staten Island, N.Y.) are slated as captains on the offensive side.
Mitchell will serve as a two-time captain, also leading in that role during the 2021 season.
"We are really excited to have these four serve as captains this fall," Raby said.
"Our team did a great job improving over the spring semester, and the leadership of these four was a big reason why.
"All of them are great leaders by example and do a great job of setting a standard for their teammates.
"I have no doubt they will do an outstanding job leading our team," Raby said.
Morrisville will get the preseason underway in August, with the season opener scheduled for Saturday, September 3.
