RIT withstands back-and-forth battle with Morrisville State women

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's lacrosse team battled back-and-forth with host Rochester Institute of Technology Friday afternoon, but the hosts withstood the Mustangs down the stretch, collecting the 14-11 non-conference victory.

The loss drops Morrisville State to 0-2 overall on the season, while RIT improves to 2-1.

Angela Marriott (Peekskill, N.Y.) paced the Mustangs in scoring, netting three goals on the day and an assist, while teammate Hunter Waldau (Central Square, N.Y.) added three tallies.

Ally Zlinsky (Owego, N.Y.) and Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) each posted two, while Meg Carlin (Pawling, N.Y.) rounded out scoring with one goal.

Kallie George (Tully, N.Y.) registered 13 saves between the pipes in the loss for Morrisville State, including eight in the first half.

Emily Levicchi led RIT with four goals and three assists, while Sage Sarkis added three more, and assisted one.

Caitlin Conway recorded the win, turning away two in the first half before being replaced by Elizabeth Hughes for the second half. Hughes saved four.

Both teams played to a back and forth battle in the first half, with RIT heading into the locker room at the break with a 8-7 advantage.

In the second, an unassisted tally early on by Wood knotted the score at eight, but RIT rattled off two straight to take a 10-8 lead just three minutes in.

Waldau brought the Mustangs within one a minute later, but another RIT score regained the two goal advantage with 19 minutes remaining.

Marriott posted her third of the day at the 17:20 mark cutting the host lead to 11-10, but RIT closed out the contest with three unanswered scores to the Mustangs one, to earn the win.

Morrisville State held the 17-10 advantage in draw controls, but was outshot 30-19 in the contest.

The Mustangs return to the fields Monday, playing Western Connecticut State University in Clearwater, Florida during spring break.
