Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustangs scored first in their home opener, but it was not enough as the visiting Bears took down Morrisville State 6-3 in a SUNYAC contest.
Morrisville got on the board first as CJ Stubbs (Pleasant Grove, Vt.) found the back of the net, five minutes into the first period. Danny Liscio (Woodstock, Ontario) and Joe Ftoma (Winnipeg, Manitoba) picked up assists on the play. Potsdam responded with a minute and a half left in the first period as Jake Rivera took a pass from Todd Thomas to knot the game up at one goal apiece.
The Mustangs took a 2-1 edge, seven minutes into the second period when freshman, Jimmy Philbin (Chicago, Illinois) rocketed a one-timer past Potsdam's goalie from the right side just inside the Bears' blue line. Unfortunately for the Mustangs it was the last lead they would see in the game as the Bears went off with three unanswered goals between the second half of the second period and the first half of the third period.
Liscio picked up Morrisville's third goal on a 5 on 3 power play half way through the third period. Mike Giacometti (Mississauga, Ontario) and David Landau (Newtown, Conn.) picked up the assists.
Potsdam's left winger, Dylan Vander Esch picked up a hat trick and an assist for the visitors.
Morrisville will return to the IcePlex on Friday, November 6 in the opening night of the home and away Brockport State series. Game time is slated for 7 PM.
The Mustangs got on the board early in the third period, knotting the game up at one goal apiece. Jimmy Philbin (Chicago, Ill.) found the back of the net for his first goal of his career. John Lauer (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Storm Adams (Akwesasne, N.Y.) picked up the assists for Morrisville.
With the score tied, the first contest for both teams headed into an overtime period. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, Potsdam wasted little time, picking up the game winner off the stick of Matt Thompson a minute twenty into OT.
