Softball drops SUNYAC pair at Cortland

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CORTLAND, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team dropped the SUNYAC double-header on the road at SUNY Cortland Saturday afternoon, in a game that was moved due to field conditions.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville Mustangs dropped a double-header Saturday afternoon to host SUNY Cortland, in a SUNYAC outing that was moved due to field conditions in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville's Kaylie Kendrick (Johnson City, N.Y.) and Erin Luther (Barton, N.Y.) each went 1-for-2 from the plate in the first of the day's action to lead the efforts at the plate, with Luther rifling a double to right center in the bottom of the fourth inning.
  • Cortland posted a 1-0 lead after the first before rallying for four runs apiece in the second and third frames, opening the gap to a significant lead, capping the contest off with a single run in the top of the fourth.
  • Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) recorded the loss on the mound, throwing the opening 1.1 innings and allowing four earned runs, while striking out one, in 11 batters faced.
  • Kendall Darling (Lacona, N.Y.) finished out the remaining 3.2 innings, allowing five earned runs.
  • In the second of the afternoon, Morrisville found some success at the plate, but the Red Dragons poured on the offensive game late, collecting the 12-2 win.
  • Cortland held a 7-0 lead before Morrisville posted two on the board in the bottom of the fifth with runs coming off the quick foot of J'Anne Colbow (Weyburn, Sask.) and Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.).
  • Cortland tacked on five more in the sixth and seventh frames combined, opening the gap to a 10-run differential.
  • Eight different Mustangs recorded hits on the day, including Colbow who registered a triple down the right line in the fifth inning to go 1-for-3 in efforts at the plate.
  • Kaylor threw 3.2 innings in the loss on the mound, allowing three earned runs, before Gracie Battles (Fulton, N.Y.) appeared for the next 2.1 frames.
  • Battles allowed three earned runs, while putting forward a 1-for-2 effort at the plate for an RBI.
  • Darling finished out the match for the final inning, allowing one earned run.

  • Morrisville is scheduled to host SUNY Delhi in a rescheduled non-conference affair on Monday beginning at 2 p.m.
