Schaeffer named Defensive Coordinator / Linebackers Coach for Mustangs

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville head football coach Eric Jendryaszek has announced the addition of Colin Schaeffer to his staff for the upcoming season, as the Mustangs defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

Schaeffer comes to Morrisville from Hobart College where he served as Co-Special Teams Coordinator and Linebackers Coach for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. During his time with the Statesmen, Schaeffer coached Liberty League Special Teams Player of the Year (Vicente Lyon) alongside Defensive Player of the Year (linebacker James Bliss) and several All-Conference and All-Region honorees.

Over the course of two seasons on the sidelines with Hobart, the Statesmen went a combined 15-7, putting together an undefeated Liberty League slate in 2024 to earn a second round bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. Hobart followed with an ECAC James Lynah Bowl Championship title in 2025.

Prior to his time with Hobart, Schaeffer spent three seasons with Bucknell University as a Defensive Line Coach, Linebackers Coach and Special Teams Coordinator. Across three seasons he oversaw positional group meetings, all phases of special teams and recruiting within New York State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Schaeffer coached two pre-season selections for the Patriot League and come season end, a second team linebacker and first team return specialist honoree.

Schaeffer spent three seasons at SUNY Cortland as a linebackers coach where he also assisted with special teams, following stints at Seton Hill University as a defensive line assistant coach and Muhlenberg College as an outside linebackers coach.

A graduate of Juniata College, Schaeffer was an inside linebacker for the Eagles, earning his degree in management with a minor in English in 2016.
