Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College softball team earned a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) split Sunday afternoon, beating Cazenovia College 18-6 in five innings in game two after falling 13-9 in game one of the action on Christakos Field in Cazenovia, N.Y.

The decision puts the Mustangs at 5-7 overall, 1-1 in NEAC play. Cazenovia is 5-7 overall, 1-1 in NEAC play.

In the first game of today's action, Morrisville started off early when Elizabeth Marr (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) hit a two RBI single to center field in the first inning. After a four run bottom of the first inning when Cazenovia's Taylor Spranger hit a three run homerun, the Mustangs responded with scoring two runs with the bases loaded off of a walk by Paula Conklin (Sparrowbush, N.Y.) and off a wild pitch that lead to a Holly Gamlen (Cazenovia, N.Y.) score. Morrisville would add to their lead in that same inning, when Brianna Martin (Apopka, Fla.) hit an infield single that lead to two RBI's to push the lead to 6-4.

After Cazenovia took the lead back in the bottom of the second inning, the Mustangs added another run when Amanda Labe (Friedensburg, PA) scored off a wild pitch. Allison Mcguire (Gilboa, N.Y.) finished off the Mustangs scoring with a two out, single to second base that scored two. Cazenovia would score four more runs in the game to pick up the win.

Gamlen and Marr each went 2-3 in the game, with Marr picking up two RBI's, Martin contributed with going 2-4, and picking up two RBI's in the game.

Brittany Keator (Roxbury, N.Y.) picked up the loss on the mound, giving up nine runs off of four hits.

In game two of today's action, Morrisville started early in the first inning with RBI's coming from Marr, Erika Kenney (Duanesburgh, N.Y.) and Liz Miller (East Greenbush, N.Y.). The Mustangs would open up the scoring in the second inning, with six runs off of four doubles that hit the outfield fence by Martin, Labe, Nicole Chiappetta (Trumball, Conn.), and Bailey Dillabough (Massena, N.Y.). Gamlen also hit a single to right center that scored another run to push the lead to 10-2 in favor of Morrisville.

After Cazenovia strung together three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Mustangs would answer with loading the bases on the first three batters. Two runners would cross the plate off of a Marr walk and a pitch that hit Dillabough. Two more runners would score off back-to-back singles by Kenney and Gamlen.

Conklin cranked a double, back to the fence, that scored two to push the lead to 14-6. Morrisville would finish off their scoring with a two out single by Miller that scored two. Cazenovia was unable to score in the bottom of the fifth, which lead to the game ending after only five innings of play.

Miller set the pace on the day by going 4-4, and contributing three RBI's in the game. While her teammate Dillabough went 3-3, and had three RBI's as well.

Kenney picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs, giving up only six runs off of eight hits.

The Mustangs return to the field on Wednesday, April 13, as they travel to conference opponent SUNY Poly for a double header. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
