Box Score 2 QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College softball team earned a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) split Friday early afternoon, topping visiting Penn College of Technology 8-7 in game one before falling 12-4 in six innings in game two of the day's action at the Adirondack Sports Complex in Queensbury, N.Y.
The decision puts the Mustangs at a 4-9 overall record, 1-4 NEAC stint. Penn College is 2-9 overall, 1-1 in conference play.
In the first of the day's double, Penn College jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the opening inning, but Morrisville State got the bats rolling in the bottom of the inning, as Heather Weinstein (Long Beach, N.Y.) poked the two run single through the infield and Elizabeth Marr (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) followed with a two run homer to tie the contest at four.
The Wildcats regained the lead in the top of the second inning with two scoring runs, and held Morrisville State scoreless until the bottom of the third, where the Mustangs added three runs to take the slim 7-6 lead.
After an error in the top of the sixth tied the contest at seven, Morrisville State's Paula Conklin (Sparrowbush, N.Y.) stepped to the plate in the bottom of the seventh and had the game winning RBI off a single that drove in Allison McGuire (Gilboa, N.Y.) for the victory.
Weinstein and Marr each went 2-for-4 from the plate for the Mustangs, both collecting two RBI's, while Conklin contributed a 3-for-4 performance with three RBI's in the victory.
McGuire earned the win on the mound, throwing all seven innings and allowing seven earned runs.
In the second of the day's action, Penn College jumped out to a 7-2 lead after two innings and added three more in the top of the fourth en route to the 12-4 conference win after six innings.
Holly Gamlen (Cazenovia, N.Y.) had the hot bat in the contest, going 3-for-4, as Marr went .500 for a second time on the day with a 1-for-2 performance. McGuire had two RBI's.
Weinstein registered the loss on the mound, allowing just four earned runs on 10 hits.
The Mustangs will face Keuka in the second double-header of the day, slated to begin at 4:30 and 6:30 at the complex.
