Box Score 2 WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Morrisville State College softball team dropped a pair of road games Sunday afternoon, falling by 6-3 and 7-1 final to host Penn College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action in Williamsport.
The losses drop the Mustangs to 5-12 overall, 2-7 within conference play.
In the first of the day's double, Penn College posted four runs in the bottom of the opening inning before Morrisville State was able to pull within one in the top of the second with a three run stint. The hosts pulled away in the bottom of the sixth with two additional scores for the 6-3 advantage, and were able to hold the Mustangs scoreless in the top of the final inning to capture the win.
Brianna Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Morrisville State from the plate, going 2-for-4, while Tomara Bodnaruik (Spey, N.Y.) added a 1-for-3 effort with a triple that accounted for two of the Mustangs three RBI's for the contest.
Erika Kenney (Duanesburg, N.Y.) registered the loss in pitching for the Mustangs, throwing six complete innings and allowing five earned runs on 10 total hits for the Wildcats.
In the nightcap, Martin posted the lone Mustang run in the first inning, nailing a triple to right field before scoring on a passed ball.
Morrisville State held the 1-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth, when Penn College rallied for seven scores to claim the win.
Martin led the Mustangs from the plate, going 2-for-3. Allison McGuire (Gilboa, N.Y.) recorded the loss, throwing six innings and allowing six earned runs on 10 hits.
Morrisville State returns to the field Tuesday, hosting SUNY Poly for a double-header starting at 3 p.m.
