Box Score 2 QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College softball team dropped a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) double Wednesday afternoon, as visiting SUNY Cobleskill picked up the (13-1) and (5-0) at the Adirondack Sports Complex in Queensbury.
The sweep drops Morrisville State to 3-7 overall, as they open the NEAC slate with a 0-2 record. Cobleskill ups their record to 5-1, 2-0 in conference action.
Morrisville State had just one hit in the first of the day's action, off the bat of Brianna Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who went 1-for-2 on the day with an RBI. Liz Miller (East Greenbush, N.Y.) scored the lone run for the Mustangs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Cobleskill held a 3-0 lead through three innings before exploding for a 10 run stint in the top of the fourth en route to the 13-1 victory.
Brittany Keator (Roxbury, N.Y.) threw the loss, pitching a total 3.2 innings and allowing eight hits and nine earned runs, while striking out two. Erika Kenney (Duanesburg, N.Y.) relieved Keator for the final 1.1 innings, allowing just one hit in six batters faced.
In the nightcap, Morrisville State's Miller, Heather Weinstein (Long Beach, N.Y.) and Kenney each went 1-for-3 from the plate for the Mustangs, but they couldn't capitalize as Cobleskill collected the 3-0 victory.
Morgan Nichols led the Fighting Tigers with two home runs in the contest, posting three RBI's in her 3-for-4 performance from the plate.
Weinstein recorded the loss on the mound, throwing all seven innings and allowing five earned runs in 33 batters faced. Weinstein also collected three strike outs in the loss.
Cobleskill led 1-0 after the opening inning before adding three more runs in the top of the third. They capped off the contest with a final run in the top of the seventh to collect the victory.
Morrisville State returns to the field Thursday, hosting Cazenovia College at 7 p.m. at Onondaga Community College.
