Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team used an explosive fourth quarter to push past SUNY Polytechnic Wednesday evening by a 9-3 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) final on Drake Field in Morrisville.
The win boosts the Mustangs to 2-5 overall as they open the conference schedule with a 1-0 record. SUNY Poly drops to 1-5, 0-2 within NEAC play.
A trio of Mustangs notched two scores apiece on the night, including Louie Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) and Eliud Evans (Culver City, Calif.) who posted two goals and assisted another for three points. Brendan Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) added a two goal effort while teammates Brad Biggs (Tully, N.Y.), AJ Donoghue (Rochester, N.Y.) and Eric Fisher (Nutley, N.J.) each tallied one.
Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded the win, making five total stops on the night between the pipes.
SUNY Poly's Nick Levanti led the Wildcat efforts with two scores, while Andre Shattell added one to round out the goal scorers for the visitors.
RJ Ferrucci posted the loss in net, turning away 21, including seven in the final quarter of action.
Morrisville State held a 1-0 lead for a majority of the opening quarter as Geswaldo notched the first score of the night at the 11:06 mark, before he added another to extend the lead to two at 2:49. Poly responded with an unassisted score from Levanti at 2:13 to make it a one goal game, but the Mustangs quickly responded to regain the two goal advantage with six ticks to go in the first with a feed from Geswaldo to a wide open Evans on the crease for the score.
Both teams posted a total four goals over the ensuing 30 minutes of the contest to send it into the fourth quarter with a 5-3 Mustang lead.
In the fourth, Morrisville State's offensive came alive and posted an early tally, a score from Evans off the feed from John Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) before adding two consecutive scores in less than a minutes time for the 8-3 lead.
Shannon converted a man-advantage into a score at 12:29 before Fisher posted his first collegiate tally, a rifle from about 15 yards out off the pass from Tom Rosaschi (East Syracuse, N.Y.) at 11:40.
Donoghue capped off the night with a score with seven seconds to go, burying the pass to the top of the crease from CJ Underwood (McDonough, N.Y.).
Morrisville State outshot the visitors 50-15 and edged the Wildcats in ground balls 32-21, 10 that were collected by Nick Capone (Rochester, N.Y.) who dominated the center X, winning 13-of-16 faceoffs.
The Mustangs return to the field Saturday, hosting Medaille College at 1 p.m. on Drake Field in Morrisville.
