Mustangs Fall to Potsdam, 13-9

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville hosted Potsdam Saturday afternoon, but despite a late push in the fourth quarter, fell to the Bears by a final score of 13-9.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Morrisville jumped out to an early lead with goals from Noah Taylor (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), but Potsdam responded with a strong offensive push, scoring five of the final six goals of the quarter.
  • After John Blair (Honeoye, N.Y.) briefly gave the Mustangs a 3-1 advantage, the Bears surged ahead late to take a 5-3 lead in the second quarter.
  • Potsdam extended its lead early in the second quarter, capitalizing on turnovers and faceoff wins to build a 6-3 advantage.
  • Morrisville responded with a strong push behind a hat trick from Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.), cutting the deficit to one, but Potsdam closed the half on a 3-0 run to take a 9-6 lead into the break.
  • The third quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to find offensive rhythm as turnovers and strong goalkeeping highlighted the period.
  • Potsdam capitalized late with two goals, including a man-up opportunity, to extend its lead to 11-6 heading into the final frame.
  • The Bears added an early goal to extend its lead, but Morrisville responded with a 3-0 run, capitalizing on multiple man-up opportunities to cut the deficit to 12-9 midway through the quarter.
  • Potsdam would answer with a late goal to halt the momentum, and despite continued pressure from the Mustangs, Morrisville was unable to complete the comeback, falling 13-9.

  • Jack Pendergrass (Syosset, N.Y.) led the Mustang defense with four ground balls and four caused turnovers.

  • Potsdam's scoring came from all across the board with 11 different scorers, including two from Alex Farben-Griggs and Rowisonkies Barnes.
  • Saka Thompson earned the win in the net for the Bears after saving seven shots across sixty minutes of action.
