Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. – Host Potsdam State scored 10 first half goals en route to a 13-5 non-conference victory over visiting Morrisville State College Tuesday afternoon at Clarkson University.
The loss drops the Mustangs to 1-5 overall, while Potsdam improves to 3-2.
Louie Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) led Morrisville State with two goals and an assist, while Eliud Evans (Culver City, Calif.) added a score and assisted another. Brendan Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) and Andrew Donoghue (Rochester, N.Y.) rounded out Mustang scoring with one apiece.
Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) registered 15 saves between the pipes in the loss for Morrisville State, including an eight save effort in the opening quarter. Potsdam outshot the Mustangs 45-27 on the day.
Eric Soderquist paced Potsdam with the hat trick, netting three goals and adding another three assists for six points on the day, as teammate Ed Doherty added three scores and registered one assist.
Pete Gropp posted the win, saving 10 in 49 minutes of play in net, before being replaced by Jack Bezek who registered two saves in the final 11 minutes of the contest.
The hosts registered the first seven scores of the day, claiming the 7-0 lead over the Mustangs midway through the second quarter before Geswaldo broke the scoring drought for Morrisville State at the 6:39 mark to notch the visitors lone score of the first half.
Potsdam added three additional tallies, including two in the final 1:16 of the opening half to claim the 10-1 lead at halftime.
Both teams traded scores in the third, and Morrisville State outscored the Bears 3-1 in the fourth quarter, but it was a little too late as Potsdam posted the convincing victory.
Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, April 1st, opening North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action against SUNY Polytechnic on the Mustangs home field.
