Box Score 2 MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's volleyball team dropped two conference matches Saturday, falling by a final 3-1 to Penn College and a 3-0 final to Penn St. Berks on the opening day of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action held at Wells College.
The losses drop the Mustangs to 2-9 overall, and 0-2 to start conference play.
In the first of the day's action, Penn St. Berks dominated the Mustangs to capture the 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-8.
A trio of Morrisville State hitters were able to put two away each, including Jessica Chandler (Morrisville, N.Y.), Tiffany Jones-Maxwell (Hamilton, N.Y.) and Kayla Mosher (Owego, N.Y.).
Sophomore Erika Bailey (Newark, N.Y.) registered eight assists, while Kylie Murphy (Nichols, N.Y.) added 15 digs in the defensive efforts.
The Mustangs were able to get five points off the serving of Mary Stetson (Apalachin, N.Y.) who tallied a team high five service aces.
In the second of the day's competition, Morrisville State claimed a third set win, but Penn College of Technology edged the Mustangs in three sets to capture the 3-1 conference victory. Penn College won the overall match with set wins of 25-18, 25-23, 22-25, and 25-18.
Chandler led the Morrisville State efforts at the net, throwing down eight kills, while Jones-Maxwell and Shania Shaver (Candor, N.Y.) each added seven apiece.
Bailey registered 27 assists.
Murphy led the defensive unit for a second time with a team high 19 digs, while Stetson added 15 and Shaver 12 in the efforts.
Morrisville State returns to the court Sunday, playing Gallaudet University at 10 a.m. followed by Bryn Athyn at 2, for day two of cross over action at Wells College.
