Morrisville State drops twin bill on road at Cobleskill

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College softball team dropped a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) double-header against host SUNY Cobleskill Wednesday afternoon, as the Fighting Tigers swept the action with final scores of 14-5 and 13-0.

The losses drop the Mustangs to 3-24 overall, 3-15 in conference action, while Cobleskill improves to 13-7 overall, 12-3 in NEAC play.

Morrisville State registered 10 total hits in the first of the day's action, but came up short as Cobleskill had an explosive eight run opening inning and capped off the contest with five additional runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for the 14-5 victory.

Brianna Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Mustangs from the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored, while teammate Beth Marr (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) added a 2-for-3 effort with two runs scored. Martin and Marr each registered a double for the Mustangs in the second inning, leading to two Mustang runs.

Erika Kenney (Duanesburg, N.Y.) recorded the loss on the mound, allowing seven earned runs, while registering a strike out.

In the nightcap, Marr and Kenney recorded the lone Mustang hits as Cobleskill posted 16 in their 26 at bats en route to the 13-0 conference victory and sweep.

Marr and Kenney each went 1-for-2 from the plate, with Marr posting her second double of the day.

Krista Baxter (Downsville, N.Y.) posted the loss, allowing 13 earned runs in four innings pitched.

Cobleskill had hot bats from the opening inning, scoring four runs on four hits and followed with five more in the bottom of the second for the commanding 9-0 lead after just two frames. The hosts went on to add four additional runs to their tallies, recording the conference win.

Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, traveling to Cazenovia College for  a conference double-header slated to begin at 1 p.m.
