Morrisville State women stun Cobleskill, register 50-38 NEAC win

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's basketball team stunned host SUNY Cobleskill Sunday afternoon, posting a 50-38 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win over the hosts in Cobleskill.

The win lifts the Mustangs to 6-17 overall, 3-11 in conference play, while Cobleskill drops to 5-18, 3-12 in NEAC action.

A pair of freshmen led the Morrisville State charge, including leading scorer Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) who had a team high 17 points. Anderson also collected a team high seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals in the win. Kaitlyn Griffin (Brewerton, N.Y.) added 11 points in the win, converting 5-of-8 from the floor.

Cobleskill had a collective effort from Kady Porterfield and Shelby Preston, who combined for 23 of the Fighting Tigers points, and 26 rebounds. Tracee Schiebel added six assists in the losing effort.

Morrisville State held a 22-17 lead at the break, before Cobleskill opened with a 9-2 run in the second half to claim the one point lead at the 13 minute mark.

The Mustangs then put together a 7-0 spurt of their own to take a four point lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the contest, and proceeded to outscore the hosts 12-4 over the final nine minutes to capture the win.

Cobleskill's last basket of the contest came with 7:25 remaining in the half, as the Morrisville State defense forced seven of the Fighting Tiger's total 25 miscues in the final minutes.

Morrisville State enters the final week of the regular season, closing out with a two game home stretch starting on Wednesday with Wells.
