Second half woes sink Morrisville State women; Cobleskill picks up 59-45 victory

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. –

The Morrisville State College women's basketball team trailed by just four after the first period, but went cold in the second half, dropping a 59-45 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) decision to visiting SUNY Cobleskill Wednesday night in Morrisville.

The loss drops the Mustangs to 1-5 overall, 0-2 in conference play, while Cobleskill picks up their first win for a 1-5 mark, 1-1 in NEAC action.

Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) led the Morrisville State charge with 17 points, adding three steals and three assists to her tallies, while teammate Jennel Paul (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 10 points and five rebounds in the Mustang efforts.

Akiella Parks (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) snagged a game high 14 rebounds.

Cobleskill got a double-double performance from Kady Porterfield who posted 22 points for the Fighting Tigers, adding 11 rebounds. Teammate Tracee Schiebel posted 13 points, registering five steals.

Cobleskill held the 36-32 advantage after the opening twenty, and held Morrisville State to just three points in 12 minutes of play in the second half, while building up a lead that became too much to overcome down the stretch.

The Mustangs struggled in the second, shooting just 18.2% from the floor on 4-of-22 shooting from the floor, a season low, while turning the ball over 14 times alone in the half.

Morrisville State is back in action Saturday, traveling to Penn State Berks.
