Lafontaine records 100th collegiate hit in road outing at Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville senior outfielder, Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) recorded her 100th collegiate hit Wednesday afternoon, but the visiting Mustangs dropped the double-header to host Clarkson University in non-conference action on the road in Potsdam.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville senior outfielder Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) recorded her 100th collegiate hit Wednesday afternoon on the road in double-header action at Clarkson University.
  • The Mustangs, though, were unable to pull out the win as they dropped the non-conference affair 3-11 and 1-10 in two five inning outings.
  • In the first of the afternoon, Clarkson jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one, adding to their total over the course of the next two innings, before putting the game away in the bottom of the fifth for the 11-3 win.
  • Morrisville put a run on the board in the top of the second with Jaiden Bellinger (Onondaga, N.Y.) sending the single shot to center field to score Kaylie Kendrick (Johnson City, N.Y.).
  • The Mustangs were able to add two more in an attempt to rally that saw freshman Erin Luther (Barton, N.Y.) record her first collegiate home run, a bomb over the left field fence, to record the two-run RBI that also scored Lafontaine.
  • Clarkson put the game away though, in the bottom of the frame with two additional runs to collect the win.
  • Lafontaine went 1-for-3 on the day alongside Sara Brefka (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and Luther who each put together a 1-for-2 effort at the plate.
  • Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) recorded the loss on the mound, throwing 2.1 innings and posting a strikeout while allowing seven earned runs.
  • Kendall Darling (Lacona, N.Y.) finished out the remaining 2.0 frames, striking out two.
  • In the nightcap, the Golden Knights claimed an early 9-0 lead after two innings and didn't look back as Morrisville dropped the five inning bout by a 10-1 final score.
  • Morrisville's lone run came in the top of the fourth as Hannah Brennan (Trumansburg, N.Y.) scored on the ground out at bat by J'Anne Colbow (Weyburn, Sask.).
  • Morrisville was held to just two hits in the match, with Maddy Krueger (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) and Kaylor each going 1-for-2 from the plate, Kaylor knocking down a double.
  • Gracie Battles (Fulton, N.Y.) threw 1.1 innings for the Mustangs, allowing six earned runs in the loss, before seeing Darling return to the mound for two outs, allowing four earned runs.
  • Kaylor finished out the remaining two innings, striking out two.
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will host Fredonia in SUNYAC double-header action on Friday afternoon at home, before hosting Buffalo State in their home finale on Sunday.
