Mustangs Fall to Fredonia in Double-Header Despite Late Rally in Game Two

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville softball team dropped both ends of a double-header to Fredonia, falling 10-1 in game one and 6-4 in game two.
THE BASICS:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Fredonia came out strong early in the first game, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning behind an RBI single and a two-run home run.
  • The lead grew to 5-0 after a two-RBI single in the second inning.
  • J'Anne Colbow (Weyburn, Sask.) provided Morrisville's lone offense with a solo home run in the third.
  • Fredonia added three runs in the fifth, including another home run, to extend the lead to 8-1.
  • Two unearned runs in the seventh sealed the 10-1 final for the visitors.
  • Kendall Darling (Lacona, N.Y.) recorded the loss on the mound, throwing the first four innings, and allowing seven runs, while striking out six batters.
  • Gracie Battles (Fulton, N.Y.) subbed in for Darling in the fifth inning where she struck out three batters and gave up three runs after facing 14 batters.
  • Game two was a pitcher's duel early, with Fredonia taking a 1-0 lead in the third on an error.
  • The Blue Devils added another run in the seventh to go up 2-0.
  • Morrisville responded in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game 2-2 on a clutch two-RBI single from Hannah Decker (Kirkville, N.Y.)
  • In extra innings, Fredonia capitalized on defensive miscues, scoring four runs in the eighth to take control.
  • The Mustangs answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, but the rally fell short as Fredonia held on for the 6-4 win.
  • Battles started the game for the Mustangs and would pitch for seven innings, giving up four runs and striking out six batters, before Darling relieved her in the eighth where she gave up two runs after facing six batters.

  • The Mustangs return home on Sunday, April 26th where they will host Buffalo State at 1 PM after rescheduling their previously postponed double-header.
