Mustangs Win Thriller in Double Overtime

DELHI, N.Y. – The Mustangs traveled to Delhi Friday night, where they faced the Broncos in a out-of-conference matchup that resulted in a 14-13 double overtime win in favor of the Mustangs.
THE BASICS:

  • Records: Morrisville 2-1, SUNY Delhi 1-3
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Morrisville edged out Delhi 4-3 in a back-and-forth first quarter with the help of Noah Taylor (East Syracuse, N.Y.) who scored two goals in the period.
  • An intense second period saw the score swing multiple times, with goals from Taylor, Jason Tedeschi (Manlius, N.Y.) and Daniel Squires (Aquebogue, N.Y.), before the Mustangs went into the break up by one.
  • The third quarter began with two back-to-back goals from Taylor before Delhi answered with four straight.
  • Taylor would finish the quarter off with a goal in the final two minutes to tie the game 10-10 heading into the final quarter.
  • Both teams traded goals throughout a tight final quarter, but neither side could pull ahead as the period ended in a tie, forcing overtime.
  • Morrisville battled through two overtime periods, with the first remaining scoreless despite several shot attempts, before Squires capitalized on a man-up opportunity in the second overtime to score the game winner and secure the 14-13 victory.
  • Taylor led the Mustangs with six goals followed by Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.) who tallied three goals and three assists.
  • Tedeschi and Squires both contributed two goals while Mitchell Shurtleff (Fulton, N.Y.) recorded his first goal of the season.
  • In goal for the Mustangs, Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) anchored the defense with 12 saves and five ground balls, while Squires recorded six ground balls and caused three turnovers.
  • Jayden Messina had 11 saves in goal for Delhi, while teammate Jagger Beachak led the Broncos in scoring with five points and one assist.

  • Morrisville will come back home for a 4 PM faceoff next Wednesday, as they face the Wolves from Keuka College.
