Fast Start Fuels Morrisville to 16-6 Win Over Alfred State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustangs hosted Alfred State Saturday afternoon, where they rolled past the Pioneers 16-6, after a dominant start to set the tone.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Morrisville wasted no time getting on the board, with Jason Finn (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) netting the game's opening goal before the Mustangs erupted for four more first-quarter scores, powering the Mustangs to a commanding 5-0 lead after one, while the defense held Alfred State scoreless.
  • The Mustangs continued to pour it on in the second quarter, extending their lead to 8-0 before Alfred State finally broke through at the 11:11 mark in the period.
  • Morrisville answered immediately and maintained control throughout the half, taking a 10-2 advantage into the break.
  • Coming out of halftime Morrisville showed no signs of slowing down, as Nicholas Denicola (Southold, N.Y.), Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), and Landon Wakefield (Fulton, N.Y.) each found the back of the net as the Mustangs pushed their lead to 13-2.
  • Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.) and Aidan Tornabene (Liverpool, N.Y.) added goals later in the period, stretching the margin to 15-3 heading into the final quarter.
  • Alfred attempted to chip away in the fourth, capitalizing on a pair of man-up opportunities, but the deficit proved too large as Morrisville sealed the 16-6 victory.
  • Finn and Mohammed each tallied four goals to lead the Mustangs offensively, while Wakefield and Brian Kelly (Tully, N.Y.) followed with two each.
  • Four other Mustangs added a goal apiece, while Chris Stancarone (Levittown, N.Y.) led Morrisville with three assists.
  • In goal, Nathan Weise (Rochester, N.Y.) earned the win with four saves in 45 minutes of action, while Ben Cooter (Tully, N.Y.) led the defensive effort with 10 ground balls and won 17 faceoffs.
  • The Pioneers were led offensively by Griffin Doan who tallied three goals, while goalkeeper Payton Bliss turned away nine shots in the loss.

  • The Mustangs will head to Utica University next Wednesday, to take on the Pioneers in a late afternoon matchup.
