Late Game Surge Pushes Morrisville Past Utica

UTICA, N.Y. – The Morrisville men's lacrosse team traveled to Utica University Wednesday night, earning a 15-10 non-conference victory over the Pioneers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Morrisville came out strong in the opening quarter, jumping to an early lead behind a balanced attack including a man-up goal from Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.), while maintaining control despite a brief push from Utica.
  • The Mustangs entered the second frame leading 6-4 before the Pioneers responded with back-to-back goals to even the score.
  • Morrisville answered with a 3-1 run to close the half, with goals from Dohn, Nicholas DeNicola (Southold, N.Y.) and Noah Taylor (East Syracuse, N.Y.) taking a 9-7 lead into the break.
  • The Mustangs edged Utica 2-1 in a slower-paced third quarter, with Dohn contributing both goals to extend the lead to 11-8 heading into the final period.
  • With the score at 12-10 late in the fourth, Morrisville pulled away with a decisive 3-0 run in the final minutes to secure the 15-10 victory.
  • Morrisville was led by Dohn who finished with six goals and two assists, followed by Dean Mohammed (Pougheepsie, N.Y.), who tallied four goals in the contest.
  • DeNicola and Taylor each netted two goals, while Jason Tedeschi (Manlius, N.Y.) added one.
  • Defensively, Morrisville totaled 34 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers, while goalkeeper Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) made 19 saves in the win.
  • The Pioneers' offense was led by Ethan Hunt who tallied four goals in the contest, while goalkeeper Jake Bowen earned 12 saves in the loss.
