Strong Start Leads to Morrisville Win over SUNY Poly

UTICA, N.Y. – The Mustangs traveled to SUNY Poly to take on the Wildcats in an out of conference matchup where they saw themselves improve their record to 4-2 Wednesday night.
THE BASICS:
  • Team Scores: Morrisville 13, SUNY Poly 10 (halftime: Morrisville 9-7)
  • Location: Wildcat Field, Utica, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 4-2, SUNY Poly 3-2
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Morrisville got off to a fast start, seeing goals from Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.), Noah Taylor (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and John Carter (Kirkville, N.Y.) to start the contest with a 3-1 advantage midway through the first.
  • Jason Tedeschi (Manlius, N.Y.) would find the back of the net next for the Mustangs before the Wildcats scored once more to end the period 4-2 in favor of Morrisville.
  • Second quarter action started quickly as Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) netted two back-to-back goals within the first two minutes to extend Morrisville's lead.
  • Dohn would score quickly after before SUNY Poly would answer with two goals in the next three minutes to bring the score to 7-4 with five minutes remaining.
  • Taylor capitalized on a man-up opportunity, followed by a goal from Dohn, before the Wildcats fought back, finishing the first half with three goals in the final 90 seconds to bring the score to 9-7 entering the half.
  • The third quarter was very quiet on both sides, only seeing one goal netted for Morrisville by Tedeschi at the 8:36 mark.
  • Morrisville would hold on in the fourth, ultimately winning 13-10 behind two goals from Dohn, and one score from Mohammed, while Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) came up with key saves to fend off the Wildcats.
  • Dohn led the way for the Mustangs, finishing with five goal and two assists, followed by Mohammed who tallied three goals in the contest.
  • Tedeschi and Taylor each contributed two goals a piece while Carter added one goal for the Mustangs.
  • In goal, Dunton saved 15 shots in 60 minutes of action while the defense was led by Ben Cooter (Tully, N.Y.) and Nicholas DeNicola (Southold, N.Y.) who recorded four ground balls a piece.
  • The Wildcats were led by Ryan Carroll offensively who finished with three goals and two assists while goalie Tyler Baisley saved nine shots in the contest.

  • Morrisville returns home Saturday afternoon, where they will face Alfred State College on their Senior Night.
