Mustangs Fall to Penn College on Road

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustangs traveled to Penn College Saturday afternoon, to take on the Wildcats in an out of conference matchup, ultimately falling 15-12.
THE BASICS:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Morrisville came out strong offensively to open the contest, jumping out to a 3-1 lead behind goals from Noah Taylor (East Syracuse, N.Y.), Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), and Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.).
  • The Wildcats closed the opening quarter on a run, scoring twice to tie the game 3-3 heading into the second period.
  • The Mustangs regained momentum in the second, outscoring the Wildcats 5-2 in the second quarter, getting two goals from Taylor while Nicholas DeNicola (Southold, N.Y.), Mohammed and Jason Tedeschi (Manlius, N.Y.) each added tallies to give the Mustangs an 8-5 advantage at the half.
  • Penn College opened the third quarter with a quick push, scoring two goals in the first three minutes to cut the deficit to one.
  • Morrisville responded with a goal from Taylor, but the Wildcats capitalized on a man-up opportunity late in the period to trim the Mustang lead to 9-8 heading into the final quarter.
  • The fourth started with back-and-forth scoring, getting two goals from Tedeschi and one more from Dohn, tying the score 12-12 with four minutes left.
  • Followed by the last Mustang goal, the Wildcats scored two straight within the next 20 seconds to give themselves a 2 goal advantage.
  • The Mustangs would give up one more goal, and weren't able to put any more points on the board, ultimately losing the contest 15-12.
  • Taylor led the Mustangs in goals with four, followed by Tedeschi with three.
  • Dohn and Mohammed each tallied two goals, while DeNicola rounded out the scoring with one.
  • Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) appeared in net for all 60 minutes accumulating 23 saves while facing 38 shots.
  • Jack Pendergrass (Syosset, N.Y.) led the Mustangs defense with eight ground balls.
  • Penn College was led by Aidan McFalls who had four goals followed by Owen Kupsey who contributed three goals.

  • The Mustangs head to SUNY Poly next Wednesday, where they will face off against the Wildcats at 4 PM.
