Morrisville Drops Home Opener to Alfred University

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustangs hosted the Saxons of Alfred University Saturday afternoon where they fell 18-9 in their home opener.
THE BASICS:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The Mustangs started the game hot as they got off to a 3-0 lead after 10 minutes of play.
  • The Saxons quickly answered by scoring three straight goals within four minutes to finish the period up 4-3.
  • Alfred University continued their hot stretch as they scored 3 more straight to start the second period.
  • Morrisville's Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.) struck back quickly as he scored seconds after a penalty was called on the Saxons.
  • Alfred scored two more goals to go into the break up 9-4.
  • The Saxons did not take their foot off the gas as they continued their dominant offense by outscoring Morrisville 4-1 to start the second half.
  • The Mustangs closed the third with a goal by Daniel Squires (Aquebogue, N.Y.) to enter the last period trailing 13-6.
  • The final period saw similar high-scoring action as both teams combined for eight points resulting in a 18-9 loss for Morrisville.
  • Squires led the Mustangs in goals with three and points with four.
  • Jason Tedeschi (Manlius, N.Y.) added another two goals while four other Mustangs scored one apiece.
  • Nathan Weise (Rochester, N.Y.) started the game in goal and recorded four saves in the first half, while Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) saw action in the second half and turned away 8 shots.
  • The Mustangs' defense was led by Jack Pendergrass (Syosset, N.Y.) who recorded five ground balls and forced three turnovers.
  • Max Sigmund led the Saxons in goal as he recorded 12 saves while Cole Loewke led the offense with eight total points.
