Two new records on day one of SUNYAC Indoors for men and women

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's and women's indoor track and field team got their first taste of championship action Friday night, taking on the SUNYAC field in the distance medley relays (DMR) at the league Indoor Championships hosted at SUNY Brockport. After day one of action, both relay teams set new record marks in the race.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville men's and women's indoor track and field teams got their start in the weekend championship action Friday night with a record breaking run in the distance medley relay on day one of the SUNYAC Indoor Championships held at SUNY Brockport.
  • The women's team opened the weekend with a fourth overall finish in the DMR in the field of 10 competing teams, putting together a power last leg of the relay.
  • Laura Powers (Chittenango, N.Y.) ran the opening leg, a 1200 meter run, before handing off to Emani Copeland (Solvay, N.Y.) for the 400.
  • A third leg by Stevieanna Seneca (Irving, N.Y.) in the 800 moved the Mustangs up two spots, before anchor Elizabeth Lucason (Camden, N.Y.) passed three with her anchor mile run of 5:25.87 in the split.
  • Morrisville's overall time set a new record mark for the women's program, a 13:41.65 overall time to earn the five points in team standings.
  • On the men's side, Nate Dziedzic (Chittenango, N.Y.) led off with the 1200 leg to position the Mustangs in sixth, before Siyel Bowman (Bronx, N.Y.) maintained the position with his 400-meter split of 50.46 seconds.
  • Nasir King (Elmira, N.Y.) moved the Mustangs up one slot with a 2:03.06 leg in the 800, with anchor Michael Ventricelli (Massapequa, N.Y.) racing towards the finish in the mile leg for a fifth overall finish.
  • The men's combined time set a new record mark for the Mustang record books, as they earned four team points behind a combined 10:49.58 time.
  • Day 2 of championship action will see the Mustangs take on the competition in the women's mile (Lucason), the men's 400 (Bowman), men's 800 (King), women's and men's 4x400 relay.

  • Morrisville will compete in a second day of competition on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. in Brockport.
