Morrisville men suffer early setback in road loss at Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team trailed by 12 midway through the opening half of Friday night's SUNYAC action on the road at host Cortland, and were unable to recover as the Red Dragons posted the 99-73 league win.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's basketball trailed by 14 at the half and were unable to recover as host SUNY Cortland collected the 99-73 win in SUNYAC play in Cortland Friday night.
  • Both teams traded scores early on, but a tip-in by Cortland at the 15:30 mark ignited a 13-0 Red Dragon run, setting the Mustangs back by 13 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the half.
  • Morrisville chipped away at the Cortland advantage and was able to cut the lead to eight, but the Red Dragons put together a 12-2 run to open the gap to 18, an advantage that proved a challenge for the Mustangs to get past.
  • Kaelem Haskins (Liverpool, N.Y.) led Morrisville's efforts with 17 points, with another 15 coming from Jacob Works (Liverpool, N.Y.) who also added five rebounds and four assists.
  • Avion Grainger (Syracuse, N.Y.) chipped in 13 and had three assists.
  • Cortland's Isaiah Austin had a huge night from long range, sinking 8-of-14 three-pointers en route to a 30-point night, leading the Red Dragons who collected a game total 18 from beyond the arc.
  • Joel Davis and Kendall Arcuri each drained four behind the arc as they posted 21 and 20 points, respectively, combining for 18 rebounds.
  • Arcuri also had six assists for the Red Dragons.

  • Morrisville will return to SUNYAC action on Tuesday, traveling to Fredonia for a 7:30 p.m. league tip.
