Morrisville's Goumas collects career high effort against #1 Hobart

GENEVA, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey team hit the ice against nationally top ranked Hobart College Saturday afternoon, dropping the 8-1 decision despite a career high effort from sophomore netminder Will Goumas (Brampton, Ont.) in Geneva.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The visiting SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey team dropped an 8-1 decision to no. 1 nationally ranked and league opponent Hobart College Saturday afternoon in Geneva.
  • Morrisville's Will Jones (Corbeil, Ont.) prevented the shut-out win with his power play goal at the 12:17 mark of the third period, putting away the puck off the assist from Tanner Dietz (Mitchell, Ont.) and Connor Santay (Baldwinsville, N.Y.).
  • Will Goumas (Brampton, Ont.) backstopped the Mustangs in net, turning aside a collegiate best effort with 53 saves, including a 23 effort in the first half.
  • Hobart jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:24 in, before adding their second score of the period at the 16:56 mark to carry the two goal lead into the intermission break.
  • Hobart posted their third of the contest four minutes into the second, adding their fourth score, an unassisted goal, at 15:05.
  • The hosts wrapped up period action with a tally with 51.6 seconds to go in the period for the commanding 5-0 lead after two.
  • Following a Statesmen goal at the 6:15 mark for the 6-0 lead, Jones posted the tally for the Mustangs to put one on the scoreboard and prevent the shutout.
  • Hobart wrapped up all scoring with back-to-back tallies in a 17 second span in the win.
  • Maverick Goyer earned the win in net for the hosts, collecting 16 saves, 10 in the final frame.

  • Morrisville will head to Cortland on Saturday, January 17 for the third straight road game. Puck drops at 4 p.m. in Cortland.
