Union runs away with win against Mustangs in second half

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Morrisville football struggled to contain host Union College Saturday afternoon as the hosts ran away with the win in the second half, collecting the 31-7 non-conference victory in Schenectady.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville football dropped a 31-7 decision to host Union College Saturday afternoon, wrapping up non-conference action in the road affair.
  • Morrisville, who trailed 14-7 at the half, struggled to contain Union in the fourth quarter, allowing two scores as they secured the win on Frank Bailey Field in Schenectady.
  • The Mustangs netted just 199-yards total offense on the day, to Union's 443, with a majority of the offensive gain for the hosts coming on the ground as they posted a 300-net yard gain in the running game.
  • Morrisville's Logan Watson (Lowville, N.Y.) collected 105 yards passing, completing 11-of-20 attempts for one touchdown score.
  • Christopher Stancarone (Levittown, N.Y.) added a 4-for-7 performance for 22 yards, netting eight on the ground in five carries.
  • Isaac Sylvain (Schenectady, N.Y.) generated 70-yards in the running game for the Mustangs in 20 attempts.
  • Xavier Gaines (Pomona, N.Y.) posted three catches for a team best 61 yards, while Mason Ondreyko (Wallkill, N.Y.) reined in seven for 40 yards.
  • Defensively, Morrisville's Camerin Camacho (Cape Coral, Fla.) had 12 tackles to led the efforts, collecting 2.5 for a loss of four yards, with another nine stops coming from Dillon English (Webester, N.Y.) who also had 1.5 tackles for a loss of three yards.
  • Union jumped out in front with 5:48 remaining in the opening quarter, completing the eight play, 84-yard drive with a three-yard run from quarterback Patch Flanagan.
  • Flanagan struck again at the 6:43 mark of the second quarter, carrying the ball 10-yards to complete the drive that started on their own two-yard line eight minutes prior.
  • Morrisville put numbers on the board with 25 seconds remaining in the first half, with Gaines collecting the 35-yard passing strike from Watson for the score.
  • Union led 14-7 at the break and added a 23-yard field goal midway through the third to send the game into the fourth with a 17-7 host lead.
  • Forcing the Mustangs to punt the ball away early in the fourth, Union began their scoring drive on their own 34-yard line and quickly moved the ball downfield, finalizing the play as Flanagan hit Gil Rivera for the 46-yard touchdown score on the deep left.
  • Union forced Morrisville to punt once again on the ensuing drive and added to their totals with a 24-yard touchdown strike from Flanagan to Joe Curran for the 31-7 lead.
  • Morrisville had two drive attempts down the stretch but were turned away as Union collected the win.
  • Flanagan finished with 132 yards and two touchdown scores as he completed 10-of-23 passes, while adding a team high 139 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns on the ground.
  • Michael Dinardo added 97 net yards on 23 carries for Union, while Rivera caught four for a team high 71 yards in the receiving game.
  • Lucas Coleman and Dominic Mazzuca each had six tackles to lead Union defensively, with Coleman posting a sack for a loss of 13 yards.
