MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville head women's lacrosse coach
Andrea Cofrin has announced her resignation after five years with the program, assuming the lead coaching role at nearby Utica University.
"I want to thank Andrea for the tremendous effort and dedication she showed to our program and the institution," Matt Grawrock, Director of Athletics said.
"She gave so much, and I know it was a daily goal for her to ensure that our student-athletes had the best student-athlete experience possible. She has been tireless in her efforts to educate and create an environment for development and growth, all while pursuing success on the field.
I have seen how her players are dedicated to her and committed to her vision. She has been a wonderful addition to our department, and we will miss her impact.
"I wish her the best of luck and know that while this move is a challenge for us, it's a great opportunity for her personally and professionally."
Cofrin was on the sidelines with the Mustangs for the past five seasons, the first two as a voluntary assistant before assuming the interim role in 2023 and serving as head coach for the following two seasons.
During the 2023 season, Cofrin's squad compiled an overall 8-9 record, going 4-1 in United East play and appearing in the conference championship tournament finals.
She guided the Mustangs back to the conference finals the following season, again posting an 8-9 overall record while going 5-2 in North Atlantic Conference play, while coaching the NAC Rookie of the Year. Her leadership guided Morrisville into their first season of competition in the SUNYAC in 2025.
Under her direction several student-athletes have garnered post-season recognition as well as academic achievements, earning league scholar-athlete and commissioner's list accolades.
"Morrisville will always hold a special place in my heart; a place that provided me with the opportunity to find my passion for coaching this incredible game again," Cofrin said.
"A huge thank you to everyone at Morrisville who made my daughters always feel welcome. Thank you to the student athletes that gave me a chance to coach them during my time as a volunteer, those relationships made me want to get back into coaching.
"I'm forever grateful to Matt Grawrock and
Brandy Thurston for their support and guidance in leading this program as the head coach for the last three years.
"I truly loved my time at Morrisville and I'm beyond grateful for the connections and relationships I made on and off the field, especially with the student-athletes."
A search will begin immediately.
Aria Treadway, assistant coach during the 2024-25 season, will assume the interim role.
