Bears claw their way past Morrisville women for win

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team kept pace with Potsdam throughout the first quarter, but the Bears clawed their way to a 13-5 lead at the break before rattling off 12 additional scores in the second half to claim the SUNYAC win in Morrisville Friday afternoon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Sophomore Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) scored seven times and assisted two more to lead the host SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team Friday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the visiting Potsdam Bears posted the 25-10 SUNYAC win on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville matched the Bears throughout the first quarter of play, before two quick strikes in the closing 1:30 of the frame gave Potsdam the 4-2 edge after one.
  • Ingersoll scored twice in the second, to bring the Mustangs within three after Potsdam posted two early on, but the Bears rattled off six straight to take the commanding eight goal lead into the break.
  • Morrisville was able to climb within six midway through the third, but as in the second, the Bears rallied for six straight scores to open the gap and collect the win.
  • Aside from her scoring totals, Ingersoll added three ground balls to go along with 13 draw controls on the day.
  • Samantha Budney (Pine Bush, N.Y.) added two scores as well, snagging five draw controls and five ground balls, while Iyla Lilleby (Medina, N.Y.) added a goal, picking up four ground balls.
  • Rebecca Thomas (Marcy, N.Y.) made nine saves in the efforts in net in the first half, before Aniyah Smith (Grovetown, Ga.) added six more to the Morrisville totals, appearing in net in the second half of action.

  • Morrisville will host Fredonia in the season finale, scheduled for next Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Morrisville.
