Morrisville softbal opens SUNYAC play at Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team opened the 2025 SUNYAC slate Friday afternoon, dropping the double-header action to host Fredonia State by final scores of 0-10 and 11-19 in Fredonia.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville softball opened the 2025 SUNYAC slate Friday afternoon on the road at Fredonia State, falling in double-header action in Fredonia.
  • Morrisville dropped the six-inning decision in game one by a final 0-10, before collecting 11 runs in the second, falling 11-19 in the five inning hitting battle.
  • In game one of the day's double, both teams played through a scoreless two innings before Fredonia plated three in the bottom of the third to take the lead.
  • The Blue Devils added one more run the following inning, before plating a combined six more over the next two to top the Mustangs 10-0.
  • Hannah Brennan (Trumansburg, N.Y.) and Lindsey Fish (Freeville, N.Y.) each recorded the lone hits for the Mustangs, Brennan putting together a 1-for-2 outing at the plate, while Fish went 1-for-3.
  • Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) recorded the loss, throwing two strikeouts in four innings pitched, before Kendall Darling (Lacona, N.Y.) finished the remaining 1.2 innings, allowing four hits.
  • In the nightcap, Morrisville scored twice in the top of the first inning, and collected 15 total hits across the contest, but couldn't stave off the Blue Devils who posted the 19-11 win in five innings.
  • Morrisville plated two in the opening frame off an RBI single from Brennan and a loaded bases walk, but the Blue Devils countered with nine runs of their own in the bottom of the inning for the 9-2 advantage after one.
  • The Mustangs got three back in the top of the second, with a two-run double from Emery Sawitzki (Amsterdam, N.Y.) that sent Sara Brefka (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and Fish home.
  • Kaylie Kendrick's (Johnson City, N.Y.) sacrifice fly to left field scored Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) who reached base on a single earlier in the inning.
  • Fredonia plated two more in the bottom of the inning to maintain a six-run lead, and added five more runs in the bottom of the third to open the gap before Morrisville scored twice in the fourth in an attempt to rally.
  • Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) registered a two-run single, driving in Bella Gaskins (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) who each recorded singles in their at bats.
  • Fredonia expanded their gap with three runs in the bottom of the inning, before Morrisville wrapped up the fourth with a four-run inning.
  • With bases loaded, Platt rifled a three-run double to the outfield to clear all runners, before Gaskins shot a single to the outfield to plate Platt.
  • Morrisville, though, was unable to rally past the Blue Devils who posted the 19-11 win.
  • Lafontaine led Morrisville at the plate with a perfect 3-for-3 outing, scoring three runs, while teammate Platt added a 2-for-4 performance with three RBI's and two runs scored.
  • Kendrick went 2-for-3 for a run and RBO, while Gaskins went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI recorded.
  • Brefka added a 2-for-3 effort with a run scored, with Baldwin recording two RBI's in her 1-for-3 performance.
  • Baldwin posted the loss on the mound for Morrisville, earning the start and facing 10 batters in the opening inning, before Kaylor appeared for the next two, striking out two in 13 at bats.
  • Darling appeared in one inning, collecting one strikeout.

  • Morrisville returns to the field Monday at Buffalo State, a rescheduled contest due to inclement weather this weekend in Buffalo. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at D'Youville College.
