WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse suffered an 8-7 double-overtime setback Saturday to visiting SUNY New Paltz, hosting their first SUNYAC contest on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • New Paltz led 4-3 at the break before Morrisville netted three in the third to claim the 6-4 advantage, but the Hawks wouldn't go away in the fourth, scoring two straight to force extra time, and came away as the victor as they put the winner in the back of the net with 15 ticks remaining.
  • Morrisville held the slim 14-13 edge in shots on goal through the third period, before the Hawks fired 11 in the fourth at Mustangs goalkeeper Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) sneaking the game tying score inside the post at the 2:29 mark on the man advantage.
  • New Paltz had the opportunity to put the game away in the first overtime period, but Dunton turned away four, including two heart-stopping crease shots to keep the Hawks off the board through the extra four minutes.
  • In the second extra frame, Dunton again turned away an early attempt by the visitors, but New Paltz was able to find a way past the sophomore keeper with 15 seconds to go, hitting the lower right corner of the goal for the sudden victory win.
  • Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.) led Morrisville with three goals and an assist, while Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) added a tally to go along with an assist.
