Morrisville drops double to league leading New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team dropped the SUNYAC double-header to league leading SUNY New Paltz Friday afternoon, allowing just three hits in game one and a combined five runs total across both outings.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville softball team fell in SUNYAC action Friday afternoon on the road at conference leading SUNY New Paltz, dropping the league battle by final scores of 0-3 and 0-2 in New Paltz.
  • New Paltz scored twice in the opening inning of the double-header, registering a two-run homer to claim the early lead.
  • The Hawks added to their total in the bottom of the six, scoring off a sacrifice fly to earn the 3-0 win.
  • Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) recorded the loss on the mound, allowing three earned runs while striking out two in 28 batters faced.
  • Sydney Waldon threw a no-hitter for the Hawks, collecting 17 strikeouts in the win for New Paltz.
  • In the nightcap, the hosts plated two in the bottom of the second to collect the 2-0 win, as Morrisville staved off eight Hawk hits, including bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Morrisville registered four hits across the seven inning outing, including one apiece from Emery Sawitzki (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) who each went 1-for-2 from the plate.
  • Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) and Lindsey Fish (Freeville, N.Y.) also recorded a hit in the battle, going 1-for-3 in their efforts.
  • Kendall Darling (Lacona, N.Y.) threw a complete game for the Mustangs, recording the loss, and allowing two earned runs in 26 batters faced.
  • Leah Gunsett had the win, striking out five.

  • Morrisville returns to the field tomorrow for their final road trip in league action, taking on Oneonta in the afternoon.
