Morrisville men open SUNYAC play on the road at #17 Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team opened State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play Saturday morning on the road at no. 17 ranked SUNY Cortland, dropping the league decision 22-4 come final whistle in Cortland.
THE BASICS:
  • Team Scores: Morrisville 4, Cortland 22 (halftime: Cortland 14-2)
  • Location: Grady Field, Cortland, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 1-4, 0-1 SUNYAC; Cortland 8-2, 1-0 SUNYAC

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host and no. 17 ranked SUNY Cortland opened up a 10-0 lead after the opening quarter and didn't look back as they defeated the visiting SUNY Morrisville Mustangs 22-4 Saturday early afternoon in Cortland in the SUNYAC opener for both teams.
  • Cortland set the tone early and often, netting the first tally less than a minute in and outgained the Mustangs 11-0 before a cross checking penalty on the Red Dragons gave Morrisville the extra man opportunity.
  • Morrisville capitalized on the extra attacker as Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) put away the tally off the dish from John Carter (Kirkville, N.Y.) at the 13:20 mark.
  • The Mustangs collected a second goal in the second quarter with 4:02 to go before the half, with Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.) posted his 10th of the season off the feed from Jason Tedeschi (Manlius, N.Y.).
  • Cortland added two more scores before the break, claiming the 14-2 lead at half.
  • Morrisville registered the first goal of the second half, their second extra man score from Mohammed at 10:08, who collected the pass from Dohn for the tally.
  • The hosts rattled off six straight before Morrisville was able to notch their fourth of the game, an unassisted score from senior captain Curtis Robitaille (Endwell, N.Y.) at the 9:54 mark, before closing out with two additional tallies for the league win.
  • Kari Thomas (Rochester, N.Y.) and Andrew Idzik (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) contributed four ground balls apiece to the Mustang defensive efforts, with Idzik causing one turnover.
  • Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) posted 12 saves in the loss in net, appearing in the opening half before being replaced by Nathan Weise (Rochester, N.Y.) for the third and fourth quarters.
  • Weise collected nine stops.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville returns to the field next Saturday, hosting SUNY New Paltz on Drake Field at 1 p.m. in league action.
