ALFRED, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team played to a 4-2 opening quarter with host Alfred University, but the game got away from the Mustangs as the Saxons picked up the 14-4 non-league win on the road in Alfred.

THE BASICS:

  • Records: Morrisville 0-1, Alfred 2-3

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville scored twice in the opening quarter of the first outing of the season, but fell behind as host Alfred University notched the 14-4 non-league win Saturday afternoon in Alfred.
  • Alfred opened with the game's first tally of the day 1:-5 in, but Morrisville responded to pull the contest even at the 11:26 mark on a Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) goal off the dish from John Carter (Kirkville, N.Y.).
  • Alfred regained the lead with a man-up score midway through, but once again the Mustangs responded and evened the contest at two with an unassisted tally from Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.).
  • The hosts posted back-to-back scores to end the quarter with a 4-2 advantage and took advantage of the Mustangs in the second, racing out to a 9-2 lead at the break.
  • Alfred posted the first three tallies of the second half to hold a commanding 12-2 lead over Morrisville, before senior captain Curtis Robitaille (Endwell, N.Y.) broke the scoring drought, burying the feed from Jason Tedeschi (Manlius, N.Y.) with six ticks to go in the third.
  • Dohn collected his second of the afternoon off a second assist from Tedeschi, cutting the lead to eight, but Alfred added two more tallies to secure the non-league win.
  • Nathan Weise (Rochester, N.Y.) posted the loss between the pipes, making nine stops in 24 minutes if action before being relieved by Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) for the final 22.
  • Dunton recorded 17 saves, to go along with five ground balls.
  • Andrew Idzik (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) contributed to the Mustang defensive efforts with five caused turnovers, while Angelo Albanese (Cicero, N.Y.) snagged five ground ball pickups.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville will return to the field Wednesday, hosting SUNY Poly on Drake Field at 4 p.m. in non-league action.
