Morrisville falls in six to Gwynedd Mercy, 9-1

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team fell 9-1 in six innings Thursday afternoon in the second of the day's action for the Mustangs, dropping the spring break decision to Gwynedd Mercy University in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville softball dropped a 9-1 decision to Gwynedd Mercy University Thursday afternoon, splitting the day's action on their second to last day of competition at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
  • Morrisville fell behind 2-0 after the first and was able to get one back in the top of the fourth with a blast up center by sophomore Hannah Brennan (Trumansburg, N.Y.) to bat in Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) for the run.
  • Gwynedd Mercy, though, added two in the bottom of the inning and extended their lead to 7-1 after five, before putting the game away with two final runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the win.
  • Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.), Isabella Gaskins (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Sara Brefka (East Syracuse, N.Y.) each went 1-for-2 from the plate in the Mustang efforts, with Brennan collecting the team's lone RBI in her 1-for-3 effort.
  • Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) recorded the loss, throwing three innings and registering a strikeout, before Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) faced the next five batters, registering one strikeout.
  • Kendall Darling (Lacona, N.Y.) saw time on the mound across the final two innings, striking out one.

  • Morrisville returns to the field for the final double-header action tomorrow, taking on Penn State Schuylkill at 9 a.m. before wrapping up the week against Penn St. Abington at 11 a.m.
