Morrisville opens season against Hilbert

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team opened the 2025 season slate Tuesday midday, taking the field against Hilbert College in the Fastpitch Dreams Classic held in Myrtle Beach, falling 6-5 to the Hawks in seven innings.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville softball had a delayed start to their season early this week and took the field for the first time in 2025 Tuesday midday, falling by a final 6-5 score in seven innings at Central Park Beach in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
  • Hilbert took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring on an error, before extending their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third with a two-run double to center field.
  • Morrisville was able to put their first run on the board in the top of the fifth as freshman Lindsay Fish (Freeville, N.Y.) registered a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Hannah Brennan (Trumansburg, N.Y.) who reached on an error.
  • After plating two runs early in the sixth behind the quick foot of Sara Brefka (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.), Fish singled to center field in the top of the sixth, once again driving in Brennan for the score, giving Morrisville the 4-3 lead.
  • Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) added an RBI to her game totals as Fish scored on Lafontaine's single to second, extending the Mustang advantage to two runs to close out the inning.
  • Hilbert posted three runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the 6-5 lead and held the Mustangs scoreless in the top of the seventh to earn the win.
  • Brennan went 2-for-3 from the plate for the Mustangs with an RBI recording two doubles, while Fish added a 1-for-3 performance with two RBI's and a run scored.
  • Baldwin went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) appeared in five innings for the Mustangs, allowing three earned runs while striking out two.
  • Kendall Darling (Lacona, N.Y.) made her first collegiate appearance on the mound for Morrisville, throwing the final inning to record the loss.

  • Morrisville returns to the field for a second outing of the day, playing Franciscan University at 4 p.m. in Myrtle Beach.
